Read just the text of a publication

If you see a black box at the bottom of a magazine page that says "Text," this means text from this page is available to read in an easy, text-only mode. Tap the black "Text" box. If there is more than one article on a page, a menu will pop up and you can select the article you want. If there is only one article, you will automatically get a text-only version of that article. To go back to the full magazine page, simply tap the black "Page" box at the bottom of the text. [top]

Download a publication to read offline

When you open a publication in your Library, it begins to download. Once it has finished downloading, it will be on your iPad to read whether you have Internet access or not.

Offline content is not available when you're signed out of Zinio, and signing in requires an Internet connection. Stay signed in to ensure you can read your publications with or without a connection. [top]

Know when your publications have downloaded

In your Library, publications with a downward-pointing arrow overlaid on the covers are not yet downloaded. When you tap one to open, it will begin to download. Download progress will be visible at the top of the app, which may be hidden or viewed by tapping. In your Library, a progress bar below the magazine cover will track the download as well. When an issue is fully downloaded, the cover will brighten and the overlay will disappear. [top]

To view full magazine spreads (two facing pages at once), hold your iPad horizontally. Hold the iPad vertically to view pages one at a time. [top]

From either view, tap the x at the top left to go back to the page you were viewing. [top]

Explore:

What's the Explore section?

The Explore section is where Zinio showcases some of the most outstanding content from our publications. Updated frequently, the Explore section has select content and articles from our different categories available to our readers free of charge. [top]

What else can I get for free?

The Explore section is updated frequently with new content, so check back regularly. You also received free sample magazines when you downloaded the app for the first time, and these are in your library. For more special offers, be sure to follow Zinio's Twitter account at twitter.com/zinio. [top]

Why is only one article from a magazine available?

In order to show off the best content from our top publications, we choose just one article from several magazines to highlight. Check back often, as it's updated frequently. [top]

What's the difference between Explore and my Library?

The Explore section gives sample highlights from several publications, free of charge. Your library is where your complete issues — paid or free with the app — are kept. Since we showcase popular magazines in the Explore section, sometimes selections from your purchased magazines may show up there. [top]

What are the icons at the top of the app?

The grid view icon, 9 small boxes in a grid, displays thumbnail-sized images of all the pages in a magazine. Tap a page to jump directly to it.

The table of contents icon, four bullets each followed by a line, displays a text-based table of contents for a magazine. Tap what you want to jump directly to it.

The third icon is a bookmark. Tap it to bookmark a page and save it for later. [top]

Is there a way to have the app open straight to my Library and skip the Explore section?

Yes. In your settings, under "Account Settings," you may select your preferred home screen, and set the app to open to Explore, your Library or the Shop. [top]

Since we showcase popular magazines in the Explore section, sometimes selections from your purchased magazines may show up there. [top]

Why are there months listed on the left side of my Library?

The months let you browse your magazine by the monthly issue dates. Tap a month to see every issue for that month. These months may not correspond to when the issue is available, since some publishers release issues early. [top]

Is there a way to have the app open straight to my Library and skip the Explore section?

Yes. In your settings, under "Account Settings," you may select your preferred home screen, and set the app to open to Explore, your Library or the Shop. [top]

Why is my iPad Library, different from my Zinio Web, iPhone or other device library?

Not all Zinio publications are available for every Zinio app. Some magazines, like adult titles, are restricted per Apple's iTunes store policies. Other magazines just haven't been formatted for certain devices yet. Whenever you purchase a Zinio title through Zinio.com, you can see icons for every device the title is available on. [top]

Why does it take so long to download a magazine?

Download times depend on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the publication — more pages or more graphics, the longer it takes. Since Zinio magazines are in high-definition pages in full color, sometimes the files are large. You can usually start reading before the download finishes. [top]

If I already have a print subscription to a magazine, do I have to buy another subscription to get it on Zinio?

Our publishers consider digital and print subscriptions separately, and most publishers can switch your print subscription to digital. If they can't, simply cancel your print subscription and purchase a digital subscription on Zinio.com.

If you call a publisher to switch from print to digital, first, ask to verify your subscription. They'll need your zip code and last name to look it up, but don't mention "digital" until they find your account. Once they find your account, tell them you want to switch to a digital subscription, and they can tell you if they can switch you. If they can, make sure you give them the same email address you used to create your Zinio account. It can take up to four weeks for the switch to happen, but if you miss any issues, email ipadsupport@zinio.com to have them added to your account. [top]

How do I delete a publication?

Tap "Read" at the bottom of the app to reach your LibraryLibrary. In your Library, tap "Date" at the top of the app, then tap "Edit," then "Remove." Tap the X on publications you'd like to delete, then tap "Remove issue from device." Once you confirm, the issue will be deleted. You can restore deleted issues anytime. Once you're finished, tap "Done" to return to the Library. [top]

How do I restore a publication?

Tap "Read" at the bottom of the app to reach your Library. In your Library, tap "Date" at the top of the app, then tap "Edit," then "Restore." Tap the + on publications you'd like to restore, then tap "Restore issue on device." Once you confirm, the issue will be restored. Once you're finished, tap "Done" to return to the Library. [top]

Where are my back issues?

If you've had your Zinio account longer than you've had your iPad, you might have back issues that aren't showing up. We're going through most of our back issues to format them for the iPad, so yours could show up soon. You can always contact us at ipadsupport@zinio.com to request specific issues. [top]

Can I read my publications without an Internet connection?

When you open a publication in your Library, it begins to download. Once it has finished downloading, it will be on your iPad to read whether you have Internet access or not. Offline content is not available when you're signed out of Zinio, and signing in requires an Internet connection. Stay signed in to ensure you can read your publications with or without a connection. [top]

How can I tell if a publication has been downloaded?

In your Library, a down arrow overlay on the cover indicates the issue has not yet downloaded. When you first open a magazine, you can see its progress as it downloads at the top of the app. This will disappear after a few seconds, but can be reactivated by tapping the screen. When the download finishes, the magazine title and issue date will appear in place of the progress indicator and the overlay will disappear from the cover in the library. [top]

Why are there magazines in my Library I didn't order? Do I have to pay for them?

To help you get started and familiar with the Zinio app, we thought we'd give you a few issues on the house. You can read them or delete them, but they're free of charge. [top]

Where are issues from other years?

Tap "Read" at the bottom of the app to reach your Library. From your Library, tap "Date," then tap the year at the top of the list on the left. Select a year from the menu and your Library will show publications from that year. Tap a publication cover to view that issue. [top]

Can I accidentally pay for a magazine twice?

If you read an article in the Explore section from a magazine already in your Library, the "Buy this issue" option will still appear. Don't buy it without checking to see if you already have it. [top]

Where are the adult magazines?

Adult titles are not available for iPad because of Apple's content restrictions. You can still read them online at Zinio.com, or on your computer using the Zinio Reader software. All Zinio apps can be found at www.zinio.com/account/download-reader-page.jsp. [top]

Shop

How do I buy a publication from my iPad?

At the bottom of the app, tap "Shop" to browse the entire Zinio newsstand. When you've found a magazine you want, simply tap the cover to purchase single issues or subscriptions easily. [top]

I want to purchase a specific magazine. Can I search by title in the Shop?

The Shop on iPad lets you browse publications by categories only. On zinio.com, you can search for specific titles and purchase them online. Not all publications are available for iPad — the ones that are will have the iPad icon in the description. [top]

Can I sort the Shop by language?

No, but you can change your country settings for shopping. Tap the settings icon in the lower right of the app and select "International Stores." Choose your country from the menu. [top]

Why does it say a Wi-Fi connection is required to download a magazine on my iPad with 3G?
